Roy Speaks

The Avalanche are 6-1 under new coach, and Hockey Hall of Famer, Patrick Roy. Color us a bit surprised. We thought his intensity wouldn't play in the locker room and that style wouldn't mesh with the current attitude of NHL players. But a 6-0 start, and with a passion for the game, and his players, that would be tough to match, Roy looks like the real deal behind the bench.

If you didn't get a chance to watch this interview before last night's 4-2 loss to Detroit check it out. Ex-Wing goalie, and victim of the 2nd goalie fight, Chris Osgood talks to Patrick about coaching, the rivalry and their fight. It give a good insight into Roy's coaching philosophy along with a laugh or two about the bad old days when the Avs hated the Wings and the Wings hated the Avs.

Patty Roy. We thinks we'se going to like you Coach.

Stay Inside! Watch TV!

Looks like fun! NO! It's not fun!
Stay indoors and watch TV!
It's Memorial Day Weekend! What to do? Go outside? Go to Territory Days? Go camping or to the zoo? HELL NO! You're going to watch TV dammit! There be lots of great sports stuffs on today! Let's get a watchin'!

UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL
Fox Proper
Pregame - Noon
Game - Noon-45
Borussia Dortmund v Bayern Munich
Lot of people around the world watch this. Not so many in the US do. Be a rebel, be different. Watch two German teams battle for the club championship of Europe. Should be fun. Really.

NCAA Lacrosse Final Four
ESPN2
Cornell v Duke at Noon-30
Denver v Syracuse at 300pm
It make me kind of sick to say this, but "Go DU!"
Admit it, you've passed by the NCAA lacrosse on the ESPNs each Memorial Day Weekend. This year give it a look. It's a fun game and Denver has a legit chance to play for the title. Championship game on ESPN Monday at 1100am.

Rockies at Giants
Root Sports - 205pm
Rockies' newest "player" Mr. Cannon.
We will win a series in SF!

(or blow some sh*t up good!)
Rockies look to not lose in San Francisco for the 2nd time in a row!

Pacific Nations Cup Rugby
210pm
Canada v USA
A battle of the 14th & 16th best teams in the world!
Rugby Union action LIVE from Edmonton! Granted we're a bit more of a fan of League but we've got to support our country against them God-less Canadians! U-S-A! U-S-A!! U-S-A!!!

Stanley Cup Playoffs
NY Rangers at Boston - 330pm on NBC Sports Channel
Detroit at Chicago - 600pm on NBC proper
It's win or go golfing for NY and Chicago.
Boston should have lost to Toronto in game 7 of round 1. They didn't and are now rolling. NY battled to avoid a sweep in game 4 and now have to win in Boston to stay alive. Win or lose tune in to watch Rangers' coach John Tortorella's post game presser. The man does not suffer fools lightly.

Meanwhile Chicago, by far the best team in the regular season, have their backs against the wall because of Detroit goalie Jimmy Howard and an inspired D corp. A hot goalie can win a team the Cup (see Jamie Quick/LA Kings - 2012).

Sky Sox host Fresno at 600pm
Free Hat! (to the first 1000 through the gates)
Bonus! It's check your junk night! You know, just to make sure it's still there and stuff.
Junk. Check.
Mascot junk? Check and check.

Boston Strong

The Bruins hosted the Sabres tonight in the first major sporting event since the Boston Marathon bombing. Boston icon, Rene Rancourt, came out to sing the anthem and the good people of Boston took it from there:

And here is a pic from the NBC Sport Network broadcast of a kid's hockey jersey draped from the Bobby Orr statue in front of the New Boston Garden.

It's for 8 year old Martin Richard.
He was a huge Bruins' fan and
was murdered in the bombing.
Well played Boston. Great. Now I think I've got something in my eye.

Huuh Huh! He Said Peter McNab!

Hee hee. Huuh huh. He said, "Peter".
Hey! The Avs finally did something good! Well, their studio host, Kyle Keefe, and analyst, Mark Rycroft, did. They made us laugh. A tongue-tied Keefe called color man Peter McNab Penis McNab and, oh my, cry havoc and release a bucket of giggles!

I do believe we have found the highpoint of this sad, lost season for the Avalanche. Penis McNab! PengoSports salutes you!

The Force Is With Ilya

The Force is strong it these ones,
but how do you breathe in this thing?!

Ilya Bryzgalov has a new goalie mask and it is as awesome as the "Universe" himself!

Just look at it! It's covered with Yodas and shit! And he helped the Flyer beat the Caps 4-1 in the mask's debut!

The Space Danger

Ilya Brezgalov and the Stanley Cup.
PengoSports favorite goalie/philosopher/cosmonaut, Ilya Brezgalov, has many important things to say about a lot of stuff. 'The Space Danger' may be the most important:

Why is it important? If you're into licking meteors it's damn important!

From The Onion. Click to embiggen.
Here's another gem from this very, very wise man:

We are lucky to have Mr. Bryzgalov walk skate among us. Lucky indeed.

Same As It Ever Was

Hey. Hockey's back and the Avs stink. Hmm. It's like the lock-out never even happened!

Looked like the Avalanche played on rental skates
during the 2nd period last night.
The Avs started off like gang-busters versus the Wild Saturday night. They led 1-0 after the 1st, it should have been 2-0 or 3-0, but when you don't bury your chances bad things are usually on the horizon. The 2nd period was that horizon. Steve Downie took 3 terrible penalties in the first six and half minutes, Minnesota converted with two power play goals, and that was that. Colorado loses 4-2.

Steve Downie going in for an another
cross check!
On a positive note, Watched Slap Shot during and after the Avs game. Better hockey, MUCH better announcers (McNab and Haynes seem like good guys but it's embarrassing for two professionals to shill that much. Zero honesty. Screw Kroenke Sports. You guys suck.) and far more entertaining than anything the NHL has to offer.

Who own the Chiefs?
Might be a long year for the Avalanche. Sign Ryan O'Reilly, play smart and bury your chances. 47 more to go with the Cup Champion Kings coming into town tomorrow. If you want to see NHL hockey, but on the cheap, wait to go see the Avs play Columbus on Thursday night. Tickets start at only $4 on Stubhub. Bargain!

Welcome Back

Welcome back NHL. Captain Bettman! Here is your ship. Just where you left her!

Nice park job shithead.
Now go away. Go away never to be heard from again. Oh. And here's that penis fish that I promised you.

Swim, swim my pretties!
Let's play f-ing hockey.

We Want Our F***ing Hockey

Here's a great video. Watch it.

We miss the NHL. Not the asshats like Gary Bettman, but the game, the players and the passion. Here's a good read about what a bunch of dicks Bettman and the rest of the owners are. This mess is their fault and their fault alone. No forgiveness for them. Ever. Fu*k 'em. Better yet, tax 'em. That'll piss them off good.

On a positive note the World Junior Championships are starting this week. Games to be shown on the NHL Network (Russia is hosting this year's championship. Hence the very early starting times).
Players are 19 & under. Future NHL'ers.
 Go USA! Go great hockey!

Eat of Bowl of Dicks Award #2

PengoSports is not proud to present its
"Eat a Bowl of Dicks Award"

to the NHL, Gary Bettman and every NHL owner.
Congrats assholes. Hope you choke on every last bite.
As you may know, PengoSports loves the hockey. PengoSports loves the NHL hockey. And PengoSports thinks the NHL playoffs are the greatest 6 weeks in sport. Pure awesome! Just a great game played by incredible athletes. That said, we're done. No more. This lock out has finished us. The League, you know, the owners that pull Gary Bettman's puppet strings, are all a bunch of corrupt, greedy, incompetent bastards and don't deserve our support. That means no more going to games, buying merchandise or watching on TV. Nope. Goodbye, you suck and eat a bowl of dicks you feckless pieces of shit.

Hey, lookie here! It's Gary Bettman and the NHL owners.
The greatest assemblage of ass-hats, douchebags
and rectal thermometers this world has ever seen.
After shutting down an entire season in 2004 to get the financial model they wanted the owners came back this time saying they needed more of the same things. IT WAS YOUR AGREEMENT IN 2005 ASSHOLES! The players didn't win! You won! The league is also making a lot more revenue today. A lot. The players are willing to work with you but the League always wants more, more more. Enough. I don't watch the game for the owners. I don't watch the game for Bettman. I watch the game for the game itself and the great athletes that play it as a TEAM. Hockey is the ultimate team sports. 4 lines, 3 D pairs and a strong presence in net. Bettman's not out there taking a shift. If a team is losing money most likely it is due to the moronic contracts the TEAMS paid out to the players and poor management, not the players. Screw you bastards. Dammit!

The owners present their latest offer.
Hope they don't 'draw mud'
So are we giving up on hockey? HELL NO! We are giving up on NHL hockey. PengoSportsis going back to the roots of the game. We'll go to Colorado College games at the World Arena; Air Force hockey games at the Cadet Ice Arena; Denver Cutthroats CHL games at the Denver Coliseum; even some high school, pond, inline and floor hockey games. We'll get our hockey and keep most of our money. And the money we spend will go to help the lower levels of the game.

Colorado College plays at the World Arena.
Tickets are reasonable, the team is good and
they don't have a fu*kin' owner to screw shit up.
CC/DU. One of the great rivalries in hockey.
Tough ticket, but worth it. Find a way to see a game.

Air Force hockey. They play the game the right way.
Tickets are cheap, games are close and you are
a great American for supporting this hockey team.

Screw you NHL! Choke on a big-asses bowl of dicks!

Kings Win Stanley's Cup!

Congratulations to the LA Kings for their incredible run to hoist Stanley Roper's Cup! (If you loved him in Three's Company you should check out Twelve Angry Men. Awesome film! But not quite as 'wacky')
The Stanley Cup, the most respected trophy in sports.
Plus you gotta love Dustin Brown dropping an F-Bomb on NBC:

That what you get for interviewing a guy who adrenalin level is pegged at 11( it's one higher you know).

Did He Touch It?

Do you touch the conference championship trophy or just let it be. Hockey tradition suggests leave it be. It is not what you are after. You only want the big cup and if you touch the little one a curse falls upon your house. Two years ago Pens captain Sydney Crosby kept his hands to himself and Pittsburgh got bounced by the Wings (who's captain Nick Lidstrom did not touchy his trophy as well). Last year Syd touched, lifted and paraded the thing around the ice and the Penguins went on to beat the Wings (who again did not touch theirs). So what did our two new contestants do this year?

Touching the "Trophy" brought the good Cap'n a lovely lady!

On Saturday for the Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews it was just let it be. Toews acted like the Campbell Trophy was a bag-o-super-fresh-sh*t and got the hell away from it as fast as possible. Tradition served.

Flyers' captain Mike Richards picked up the Prince of Wales Trophy and skated off to the locker room like he stole it. Tradition? Ha! Take that!

So is it good luck? Bad luck? Or just a fu*kin' trophy and it will all depend on the talent and effort of the teams the play for the Stanley Cup? We'll know in a couple of weeks.

So girls? I see your answer is to "touch" the trophy.

Now it is Chicago v Philadelphia. Flyers against the Blackhawks. The Windy City and the city of Brotherly Love. Corruption Midwest style or Corruption East Coast style. A green river on St. Pats or Booing Santa Claus at Christmas. PengoSports sez, "Go Hawks!"

Old Time Hockey! (and Crappy Basketball)

Stanley Cup playoffs or NBA playoffs. Which are better? Come on. Do you even have to think about it? The Flyers heart or the Cavs lack of anything close to that? Montreal battling from an 8th seed to the conference finals, or all the losing teams in the NBA playoffs mailing in a result? Grit, courage, toughness and fire, or 112-71 blowouts? Your choice. I'm not saying there is a wrong answer, but if you answer NBA your tickets for the ice capades are waiting for you at will call. Oh, and your panties are showing.

Now for your viewing enjoyment, an couple of clips to demonstrate the difference:

In the first video Toronto's Darcy Tucker pretty much destroys Philadelphia's Sami Kapanen about 7 minutes into overtime of game 6 in the 2004 Eastern Conference semi finals. Did Kamanen stay down? Call for the trainer? Quit? Hell no he didn't! He somehow wobbled, weaved and flopped himself back to the Flyers bench, keeping the play alive, and Philadelphia scored a couple of rushes later to clinch the series on the road. Wow! I will say it again, WOW!

The second video is the extended version with the hit, the post hit action and the goal. The action part runs from 2:37-3:25. The Flyers total respect and awe for Kapanen runs from 3:48-4:27. WOW! Just fricken WOW!

And to defend the NBA? Mr. Paul Pierce of the Boston Celtics, coming back from the dead, to do whatever the f*#k he thought he would do. Did Pierce think he would pull another Willis Reed? Well first you have to be injured. I mean really injured, like a torn thigh muscle injured. Then you have to show some balls and come out and try to play, sink your only two shots, and leave the floor as a legend. Paul Pierce, I watched Willis Reed, I respected Willis Reed, Willis Reed was a man. Mr. Pierce, you're no Willis Reed.

Now watch the craptasticness.
