Fear The Beards

At a press conference the other day Dodgers' reliever Brian Wilson was offered a cool million to shave off his beard. He said no. But he did give props to the Pacific Coast League by wearing his Albuquerque Isotopes shirt under his LA jersey.

Do that in the NFL and your ass gets a 10 grand fine.

USA v Canada in rugby union action on Universal Sports (DirecTV 625/Dish 402). Runs until about 700pm MDT, but the US is getting thumped 27-6 with just a bit to play. So watch at your own peril (unless you're a Canadian).

Rockies at Baltimore - 500pm to after 800ish MDT on Root Sports (DirecTV 683/Dish 414/Comcast 35). Rockies are taking a thumpin', down 7-1 in the 3rd.

700pm MDT - Rapids host Vancouver on Altitude (DirecTV 681/Dish 410/Comcast 56). New players Gabriel Torres and Vicente Sanchez add some spice to one of the hottest teams in the MLS. 

800pm on KKTV Channel 11 - BRONCOOOOOOOOOOOSSS! Take on the Seahawks. Manning may play a quarter+ tonight so it's worth watching for that.

1030pm - NRL Rugby, Warriors v Panthers, on Fox Sports 2 (Fuel TV DirecTV 618/Dish 398/Comcast 128). Not the greatest game, but it is the NRL and it is LIVE from Australia, so watch it dammit!

1230am - AUSSIE RULES on Fox Sports 2! Yup! It's back on a TV channel that more than 3 people can get! Bulldogs v Crows!

Hot damn! It's Origin time again!

State of Origin I! Tonight! (Well, 400am on Wednesday/pre-game at 330am) LIVE! On Fox Soccer (Comcast 125, DirectTV 619, Dish 390). IT! IS!! ON!!!

What is Origin?
Just the most awesome sporting event ever!

The State of Origin is the annual, best of 3 Australian National Rugby League all-star clash between players from New South Wales and Queensland, and it is about the most awesome sporting spectacle on the planet.

Imagine the best NFL players that played their high school ball in Texas and Florida leaving their teams three times a year, during the season, to play all-star games against each other that are far more intense than any rivalry, any playoff game or the Super Bowl. That just starts to scratch the surface of State of Origin. Origin is some thing special in the world of sports.

Rugby League is a hard-hitting, fast-moving game.
Football without pads, or a ton of subs (just 12 total per game).

Afraid the rules will be too weird? Rugby League is pretty easy to follow. They game is played 13 a side. Passes all have to go backwards. You can move the ball forward by running or kicking it. You get 4 points for a try (touchdown), 2 points for the conversion (extra point) and you can get 1 point for drop kicking a goal during play. Check out this page for a quick guide to the rules. Watching The Rugby League

Hey! What channel is the footy on?

How do you watch Rugby League on the TV and the interwebs you ask? Well, if you have Fox Soccer Plus (DirectTV - 621/Dish - 407/Comcast - A**holes) you pay $14.99 a month and just watch away. Don't have FSP? Join the club. So we have to watch replays of the English Super League on the Fox Sports step child FuelTV (Comcast - 128/DirectTV - 618/Dish - 398). Usually Mondays at 1100am and the same game again on Thursdays at 200am.

We don't get Sky Sports. We don't get shit.

And now we can watch LIVE National Rugby League action from Australia on THE NRL's web channel on Livestream.com starting with this Thursday's curtain raiser between the South Sydney Rabbitohs and the Sydney Roosters.

Rugby League! Almost LIVE!

Well. Well. Well. Would you look at what the MMA & T*ts channel (SPIKE) went ahead and did? Rugby league. National Rugby League from Australia is what they did. It's on! Is it Live!? No. But we get to watch a game a week during the playoffs plus the Grand Final, and that's better that in sharp stick in the eye ain't it?

There will be a Finals Series game shown Friday the 11th, 18th & 25th at 9:00 pm (about a 14 hour delay) and the Grand Final will be shown on Sunday, October 4th at 9:00 am (only a couple of hours after the game ends). Not bad for a last minute pick up by the Spike TV folks.

Tonight's game is the Melbourne Storm v the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles. If you want to watch the games live you can go to omnisports.tv and pay $5.99 a game. Unless you're an expat that blows. So screw you Omnisports.tv and HUZZAH! to Spike TV!
